Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me and my practice. The following is a brief description of my background and training so you can get a better idea if I am right for you.
I began my career in 1993 working with families and children in a child treatment facility in Charlotte, NC. I then completed my Master's degree in Social Work at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1998.
At that point I trained for my clinical license at United Family Services where I worked with families, individuals, and couples providing Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In 2000, I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and started private practice with a focus on adults with anxiety and depression.
Currently I work with adults only (18+). I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is based on the theory that our thoughts create the way we feel. Through retraining our negative thoughts, we have the power to create positive, balanced feelings.
Homework is assigned in between sessions to practice changing destructive thoughts and behaviors.
I also place a strong emphasis on the connection between mind and body and use techniques such as meditation and relaxation exercises (MBSR) to relieve anxiety and depression. I am affirming of individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
